Discover the Swedish countryside and its extraordinary landscapes with one of our countryside motoring tours. Overnight accommodation is at some of Sweden’s finest Countryside Hotels ranging in style from renovated manor house to fashionable Inn; 13th century convent to hunting lodge.

All are in beautiful settings, by lake or river, fishing village or parkland and although individually owned, share similar qualities of exceptional service, friendly atmosphere and excellent cuisine.

Whilst the style of hotel varies considerably, each is fully licensed with an a la carte restaurant and tastefully furnished public rooms. Bedrooms all have private bath/shower and WC and most have a telephone, radio and TV.

Motoring through the Swedish countryside is an ideal way to enjoy the extraordinary landscapes for which Sweden is renowned. Driving conditions are comfortable and relaxed, taking either the main roads or following more scenic routes.

DAY 1 UK-STOCKHOLM Scheduled SAS flight to Stockholm, high speed train transfer to the city centre and overnight at Hotel Reisen for 2 nights.
DAY 2 STOCKHOLM Day at leisure (see page 58 for more information).
DAY 3 STOCKHOLM-VIKBOLANDET Drive south to Vikbolandet and check in at Mauritzbergs Slot, a meticulously renovated castle with just 12 rooms set in beautiful parkland.
DAY 4 VIKBOLANDET-OLAND Continue south and cross over the sweeping bridge to Oland and the Halltorps Gastgiveri for two nights.
DAY 5 OLAND Day at leisure on this superb sliver of an island in the Baltic. Its unique limestone plain is dotted with wooden windmills, an Iron Age fort, moss, lichen and the ruins of Bergholm Castle.
DAY 6 OLAND-HESTRA Cross Sweden to Hestra a mid-way point beneath Lakes Vattern and Vannern. Overnight at Hestravikens Wardshus, an ochre, clapboard Inn lying at the junction of the river Nissan and Lake Vikarsjon.
DAY 7 HESTRA-GOTHENBURG Drive across to Gothenburg for a final night at the Elite Plaza.
DAY 8 GOTHENBURG-UK Morning free before return flight to UK.
