HOLIDAYS TO ICELAND
FLASHPACKERS SAFARI

Modelled on the contemporary idea of the African safari, enjoy this what you might call a ‘flashpackers’ trip with dramatic, contrasting scenery each and every day and touches of luxury in the evening. Overnight stays are at hotels a cut above the rest with ‘to die for’ restaurants, elegant quirky rooms and owner driver’s service. Your route takes in the island’s must see places along with other forgotten by the guide books.
DAY 1 UK- REYKJAVÍK Scheduled Icelandair flight to Reykjavík. Collect hire car at the airport, drive to and overnight at Hotel Rangá for 2 nights.
DAY 2 HELLA Wake up to the drama of Mt. Hekla overlooking the tranquility of the Rangá river. After breakfast, drive along the coast stopping at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss on the way to Dýrhólaey’s bird cliffs and black sand beaches. Late afternoon detour into Þórsmörk, the valley shielded on three sides by glaciers, surrounded by ice caps and carpeted with dwarf birch.
DAY 3 HELLA - GLÝMUR After breakfast, drive to Gullfoss, the golden waterfall, where the glacial river Hvítá plummets 32 metres before twisting and tumbling down a large gorge. Continue up to the Geysir area where Strokkur spouts impressively every 5 to 10 minutes and alongside Þingvellir National Park, always mystically beautiful but particularly tranquil in late afternoon. Overnight at Hotel Glýmur for 3 nights.
DAY 4 SNÆFELLSNES Drive around the Snæfellsnes peninsula whose kaleidoscopally colored mountain spine is dominated by a glacier; visit Arnarstapi with its basalt rocks, rock arches and bird cliffs and take a boat trip out into Breiðafjörður to spot for puffins and white tailed eagles.
DAY 5 BORGARFJORÐUR Drive via Borgarnes to Bifröst, explore the Paradise Hollow and Grabrok crater before turning east to Reykholt. Stop at the lava waterfalls Hraunfossar, Surtshellir caves and Hallmundarhraun lava fields.
DAY 6 GLÝMUR – REYKJAVÍK Drive alongside the Borgarfjörður, then under it and down to Reykjavík. Overnight at Hotel Centrum.
DAY 7 REYKJAVÍK – UK After breakfast drive along the moss clad lava Reykjanes peninsula to the Blue Lagoon for a valedictory bathe before, dropping your car off at the airport and return flight to UK.
