Trek for 8 days amongst Landmannalaugar’s multi coloured mountains and hot springs and continue in Fjallabak, whose lava fields have been laid down by the adjacent Hekla & Katla volcanoes.
DAY 1 UK-REYKJAVÍK Scheduled Iceladair flight to Reykjavík, transfer to and overnight at Hotel Leifur Eíriksson.
DAY 2 REYKJAVÍK- HELLA Breakfast at hotel and self transfer by bus to Hella and then private transfer to Austvadsholt farm and overnight.
DAY 3 HELLA-RJUPNAVELLIR After breakfast at Austvadsholt people get to know their horses and course is set for the lodge at Rjupnavellir. Ride through meadows and lava fields, alongside Ranga river passing the historical lava sheep-fold Landrettir. 5 hours riding. Overnight at Rjupnavellir.
DAY 4 RJUPNAVELLIR-LANDMANNAHELLIR Morning departure from Rjupnavellir to the wilds, crossing an ash desert and Solvahraun lava field, close to Hekla. A 6 hour ride brings you to Fjallabak Nature Reserve and the historic area of Landmannahellir, where farmers stay whilST gathering their sheep in the mountains. Overnight at lodge in Landmannahellir for 2 nights.
DAY 5 LANDMANNAHELLIR Morning, a 3-4 hour ride through the valley Domadal passing Frostastadarvatn lake on the way to Landmannalaugar, a grandiose settings of old craters and colorful mountains. Afternoon at leisure exploring the fabulous neighbourhood or bathing in a natural hot water pool. Leave the horses and drive back to Landmannahellir.
DAY 6 LANDMANNAHELLIR-HOLASKJOL Drive back Landmannalaugar and re-mount. Taking the old Fjallabak trail through the highlands, up and down hills, crossing streams until reaching Eldgja, the largest eruptive crater on the earth. 7 hours ride. Overnight in the lodge of Holaskjol.
DAY 7 HOLASKJOL-HVANNGIL Leaving Holaskjol for the Skafta river and Ofaera, passing the "Swan Lake" Alftavatn. On over Maelifellssandur; a black sand of volcanic ash near the glacier Myrdalsjokull. A 7-8 hours ride. Overnight at Hvanngil.
DAY 8 HVANNGIL-BOLSTAD 4-5 hours ride through variable soft and rough landscapes to the astounding mountain Einhyrning surrounded by three glaciers. Overnight in shepherds lodge at Bolstad.
DAY 9 BOLSTAD-SMARATUN Following the path down to the historic Fljotshlid area along the big Markarfljot river, with the glaciers Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull still in the background. A 6 hours ride. Overnight in the guesthouse at the Smaratun farm.
DAY 10 SMARATUN-HELLA From Smaratun over to the Vatnsdal valley before crossing the Ranga river to get to Austvadsholt land. The horses are released in their home meadows. A 6-7 hour ride. Overnight at the farm.
DAY 11 REYKJAVÍK-UK Private transfer to Hella, bus to Reykjavík airport via Reykjavik and scheduled flight to the UK.
