GRAND HOTEL REYKJAVIK

A long standing favourite of ours for people who want quiet surroundings but proximity to the city centre (about a 20-minute walk). NORDICA HÓTEL

From the moment you step into the huge marble floored lobby with its understated elegance, to the point where your head touches the red (fire), black (lava) and white (ice) pillows, you know you’ve hit on a class act. Few hotels pull off the blend between ‘local atmosphere’ and ‘elegant’ but the Nordica does, which is presumably why so many of the rich & famous stay here without talking about it. All 284 rooms have private WC/bath/shower, TV, telephone/voice-mail, minibar, trouser press and hair dryer.

THE CENTRUM HÓTEL

Stylish modern hotel inside with an exterior sympathetically in keeping with its surrounding clapboard buildings. Bang in the centre of town but in a quite enclave (more than useful on a Friday or Saturday night). Close to restaurants and shops. All 89 rooms are furnished and fitted in a Scandinavian minimalist but warm style and have private WC/shower, radio, TV, telephone.

All 43 rooms are individually styled & decorated and have private WC/shower, TV, telephone.
