HOLIDAYS TO ICELAND
ICELAND IN A NUTSHELL
6 days from £710 pp
Enjoy Reykjavík’s cutting edge everything; take in Iceland’s best known natural attractions: Gullfoss, Geysir and the serenity of Pingvellir, do a little culture vulturing up by Reykholt, shrine to Saga author Snorri Sturluson; drive out along the Snæfellsnes peninsula topped at its end with an eternal ‘pyramid of snow’; do a litttle whale spotting at Ólafsvík and round off with a bathe in the Blue Lagoon for a trip that literally captures Iceland in a nutshell.
DAY 1 UK-REYKJAVÍK Scheduled Icelandair flight to Reykjavík. Transfer to Hotel Reykjavík for 2 nights.
DAY 2 REYKJAVÍK Time to chill out, hang out or take a city tour including Hafnafjord.
DAY 3 REYKJAVÍK-HAMAR Courtesy transfer to collect your hire car. Drive through the Whale Bay Tunnel via Borgarnes (dripping in Saga mystery) to Hamar and overnight at Hotel Hamar for 2 nights.
DAY 4 HAMAR Tear yourself away from the hotel’s exquisite views and drive along the Snæfellsnes peninsula whose mountain spine is a kaleidoscope of colours. Either leave enough time for whale spotting at Ólafsvík (3.5 hrs 10 June - 31 August) or circumnavigate the peninsula: don’t miss Arnarstapi with its rock arches, basalt rocks and cocktail of wildlife and Dritvík’s ‘lifting stones’.
DAY 5 HAMAR-FLUDIR Drive down to the northern end of Pingvellir, across to Geysir where Strokkur’s eruption every 5 to 10 minutes captivates and then up to Gullfoss: the Golden Falls, where Hvítá’s glacial waters fall 32 metres in a wide curtain. Continue to Fludir for a final night.
DAY 6 FLUDIR-KEFLAVÍK After breakfast, stop off at Hverageri, the horticultural and botanical village sitting on hot springs and then to the Blue Lagoon, for a bathe in its pastel turquoise waters before dropping of your car at the airport and return flight to the UK.
