Enjoy the heart of Finland’s lake district where the bustle of waterborne traffic is constant, the sun barely sets and the forest seeps in to the towns so as to be everywhere. You’ll move around effortlessly down across lakes to Lappeenranta, the original Czar’s gateway to the then Duchy of Finland and cruise along the extraordinary Saimaa canal to the heart of medieval Russia.
DAY 1 UK – HELSINKI Scheduled Finnair flight to Helsinki. Self transfer to Hotel Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel for 2 nights.
DAY 2 HELSINKI Day at leisure.
DAY 3 HELSINKI – PUUMALA A 3 hour rail journey to Mikkeli. Private car transfer to Puumala. 3 nights at Hotel Sahanlahti.
DAY 4 PUUMALA 4 hour boat trip to Niinisari including a visit to Honey Moon Gallery, Temola berry wine tasting and Liehtala museum farm. Hire a bike and explore Puumala village, visit the church built in 1751, the handicraft and gold shop or just enjoy the views over Lake Saimaa from the Sky Bar observation platform at Puumala bridge.
DAY 5 PUUMALA Guided canoe trip along the old saw mill route, guided hiking tour, sightsee by small plane or try your luck at fishing, play tennis or swim.
DAY 6 PUUMALA – LAPPEENRANTA Afternoon private transfer to Puumala Harbour for a 4 hour cruise across Lake Saimaa to Lappeenranta. Lunch on board. Self transfer to Hotel Lappee for 2 nights.
DAY 7 LAPPEENRANTA – VYBORG Full day visit to Vyborg in Russia, one way via the 43 km long Saimaa Canal, half of which is in Finland and the other half in Russia lasting 5 _ hours and the other by coach, 3 hours. Sightseeing tour in Vyborg.
DAY 8 LAPPEENRANTA – HELSINKI 21 2 hour train journey back to Helsinki, self transfer to Helsinki airport for flight back to the UK.
