HOLIDAYS TO NORWAY

IMAGES OF NORWAY
6 days from £1055 pp

Explore the Hanseatic delights of Bergen; discover Oslo with its extraordinary Vigeland sculpture park; cruise on the world’s longest fjord and through Western Norway’s archipelago; stop off at old working farms for a glimpse of Norwegian life and take in the extraordinary Flåm mountain railway.

To get the best ‘up close and personal’ views of the fjords we use shallow draft day cruisers specially designed to navigate their innermost reaches, particularly along the Nærøy one of the country’s most awe inspiring sights. The cruise element of this trip is escorted from Bergen and along the Sognefjord, your guide staying with you until you reach Flåm for the mountain railway up to Myrdal. Book ended with stays in the Hanseatic port town of Bergen and the old Viking capital Oslo and linked with a rail journey across a mountain plateau, images a plenty unfold.

DAY 1 UK - OSLO Fly to Oslo for 2 nights at Clarion Royal Christiania.
DAY 2 OSLO At leisure in the Viking Capital set at the head of the Oslofjord. Oslo is a compact city with shops, theatres and restaurants within walking distance of each other. The Viking Ship Museum, Munch Museum and extraordinary Vigeland Sculpture Park are all musts.
DAY 3 OSLO - SOGNEFJORD Depart on the scenic Oslo-Bergen railway for Myrdal and then (down) the awe-inspiring Flam Valley on the mountain railway with its vertiginous 1 in 18 gradient and extraordinary scenery. Met by guide, transfer to Gudvangen and embarkation for sailing down the Naeroyfjord for Leikanger. Overnight at Leikanger Fjord Hotel or Sognefjord Hotel.
DAY 4 SOGNEFJORD - BERGEN Sail down the Sogne past Balestrand before visiting Finden Farm and exploring the dramatic Finnabotn Bay. Later, clear the mouth of the fjord before turning south through one of Norway’s most beautiful coastal archipelagos, reaching Bergen in the early evening. 2 nights at Neptun Hotel.
DAY 5 BERGEN Day at leisure. Sitting in the embrace of its seven mountains and latticed by fjords, this charming Hanseatic harbour town is a delight. Bryggen, the medieval quayside and Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg’s home, are probably Bergen’s best known attractions. The view from the top of Mount Floyen is truly breathtaking.
DAY 6 BERGEN - UK Morning and lunchtime at leisure before return flight to UK.
