HOLIDAYS TO ICELAND
SOUTH COAST EXPLORER
5 days from £650 pp
Enjoy some of Iceland’s most iconic attractions that are strung out along the island’s southern coast: the hanging curtain waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss; Dyrhólaey’s bird cliffs and unique rock arch; Myrdalsjökull glacier and the most famous trio of them all: Gullfoss, Geysir and Pingvellir.
DAY 1 UK-REYKJAVÍK Scheduled Icelandair flight to Reykjavík. Collect hire car, drive to and overnight at Hotel Rangársel for 3 nights.
DAY 2 KELDUR-VÍK Drive along the coast to Dyrhólæy, a promontory edged with bird cliffs, topped with a lighthouse and with views of its famed black sand beaches fringed with white water foam. For the best view of the rock arch take a trip out on one of the amphibious trucks available locally. On your way back, stop at Skógafoss waterfall and visit the charming Skógar Folk museum, one of the best collections of preserved turf roofed houses in Iceland.
DAY 3 MYRDALSJÖKULL/PÓRSMÖRK A day of options: you can drive up on to Mrdalsjökull for a safari or (if you’ve upgraded to a 4WD car) drive into Landmannalaugar or Pórsmörk, the latter carpeted with dwarf willow and birch, or take a six minute up and down flight to the volcanic Vestmannaeyjar Islands. Later perhaps round off the day with a plate of fresh Lobster.
DAY 4 KELDUR-REYKJAVÍK After breakfast, drive along to the greenhouse village of Hverageri and then up to the Geysir area and Gullfoss, the double twist waterfall. Continue past the dramatically tranquil landscapes of ingvellir National Park and in to Reykjavík for a night at the Hotel Leifur Eíriksson.
DAY 5 REYKJAVÍK-UK After breakfast drive along the moss clad lava Reykjanes peninsula to the Blue Lagoon for a valedictory bathe before dropping your car off at the airport and return flight to UK.
