NORTHERN LIGHTS
|
£45 pp
|
|
Climb aboard for an evening hunt for the beautiful auroras known as the Northern Lights. Sometimes white, wispy and elusive and at others rainbow
coloured, swirling and dramatic. The Norwegian, who first gave an explanation as to how they came about was driven mad (literally) by them: if you are lucky enough to catch a sighting your reaction may be a touch more muted!
Hotel pick-up at 9.30 am for 3/5 hours. |

BLUE LAGOON, GULLFOSS & GEYSIR
|
£ 65 pp

A full day excursion beginning with the Blue Lagoon whose warm, turquoise blue waters lie amongst the black rocks of a lava field: not only fun but also good for you, since there is now all sorts of scientific evidence that the Lagoons mineral salts help you relax and its white silica mud nourishes and softens the skin. From here you travel to Pingvellir where the early Viking settlers decided to stop raping and pillaging and set up a parliament instead. And then, on to Gullfoss, in winter a giant mass of frozen stalagmites and stalagtites overflowing with foaming water, before arriving at the famous Geysir area. Return to Reykjavik.
Hotel pick-up at 8.30 am for 10 hours. |

SUPER JEEP LOBSTER FEST |
£ 130 pp
|

Icelands lava fields are so surreal they seem as though they
belong to another world (in fact, NASA uses them to replicate the
surface of the moon), but when illuminated by the blues and greens
of the Northern Lights, they will take your breath away. We believe
this tour, in which you negotiate the tricky mountain tracks from
the astounding comfort of a luxury superJeep (a specially converted
version of the worlds largest SUV, complete with four-foot wheels
and deflatable tyres for gliding across the ice), is the way to
experience them in true style. Depart from Reykjavik just as the sun
begins to set, and drive under the stars
down to the fishing village of Fjorubordid. Round off the evening by
settling down to a platter of freshly caught lobster in butter and
garlic. Hotel pick-up at 6.30/7.00 am |

GLACIAL VISTAS |
£ 145 pp
|

To the uninitiated glaciers are simply big blobs of ice; to
environmentalists, frozen mines of information stored for thousands
of years; to the adventurous, playgrounds to snowmobile or husky
safari on; to the everyday traveller, simply awesome sights to gaze
at. Above all they are living breathing things, compacting from
falling snow at their centres, negligently crushing rock at their
sides and irrigating their edges with melt water. This trip takes
you across barren wild terrain past weathered moors, waterfalls,
volcanoes and mountains to the edge of a glittering glacier. Once
there you clamber aboard a caterpillar-wheeled former rocket
launcher to cross the deep fissured edge up to the top where,
depending on weather and season, you can take an optional snowmobile
safari. Hotel pick-up at 8.30 am for 9-10 hours. Optional
Snowmobile £80 per person
