HOLIDAYS TO FINLAND SNOW ADVENTURES IN YLLAS
Yllas’s seven fells lie east of Europe’s longest free streaming river, the Tornio-Muoniojoki, just over a 100 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Dominated by its eponymous fell and with two original Sami villages, Akaslompolo and Yllasjarvi, this unique area is renowned for its subtle landscapes and awesomely dramatic scenery. Around Akaslompolo, Finland’s oldest ski-resort, are low lying fells which are ideal for effortless cross country skiing and also perfect for snowmobiling or reindeer safaris along marked forest trails. And at 150 kms north of the Arctic Circle snow conditions are good all through the season and the Northern Lights glimpsed some 200 times a year. YLLÄSHUMINA Family owned by Toivi Quist, a one time Olympic skier, and his wife Meeri, the hotel is a unique log cabin complex with a colony of cabins built in original Finnish style huddled around a central building housing a restaurant, sitting room and bar. Each cabin has 4 beds, 2 of which are on an upper gallery, private WC/shower, telephone, radio, hairdryer and drying cupboard. |
